The Morris J. and Betty Kaplun Foundation Essay Contest invites students to explore their heritage, reflect on personal values, and examine Judaism’s contributions to civilization and culture. This contest encourages young people to engage with challenging ethical topics through the writing process.
Scholarship Details
- There are two contest levels based on the student's grade
- The first-place winner in each level receives $1,800
- The next five winners in each level receive $500 each
- All entries become the property of the foundation
- If the foundation wishes to reproduce an essay, it will do so only with the author's permission and attribution
Eligibility Criteria
- Level I is open to students in grade 9
- Level II is open to students in grades 10, 11 and 12
- Students must write an essay based on an assigned topic that encourages reflection on heritage, values, ethics, Judaism, civilization and culture
Application Process
- Determine which contest level applies to you
- Review the assigned essay topic for your contest level
- Write an original essay that thoughtfully addresses the assigned topic
- Review your essay carefully to ensure it follows the contest requirements and is ready for submission
- Submit your essay
- Check your email for notification of the contest results, which will be sent by May 31st
