Scholarship Description

The Linly Heflin Scholarship provides financial assistance to undergraduate women who are Alabama residents attending or planning to attend an accredited four-year college or university in Alabama. Scholarship funds can be used for tuition, books, fees, and university-sponsored room and board. Recipients can receive funding for up to eight semesters over five years, with funds sent directly to their schools. Applicants must meet academic, residency, citizenship, and enrollment requirements to qualify.

Scholarship Details

  • Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, books, fees and university-sponsored room and board
  • Funds are sent directly to recipients' schools in early August for the fall semester and in November for the spring semester
  • Recipients may use scholarship funds for two semesters per academic year, for a total of eight semesters
  • Scholarship funds must be used within five years of the award

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be women who are U.S. citizens and residents of Alabama
  • Applicants must attend or plan to attend a four-year Alabama college or university accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
  • Applicants must have a minimum ACT score of 23. ACT scores may be superscored.
  • Applicants must have a minimum high school GPA of 3.2.
  • Applicants must graduate from an accredited Alabama public high school, a private school licensed by the Alabama State Department of Education or be homeschooled
  • Recipients must maintain full-time student status with a course load of at least 12 hours per semester
  • Recipients must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5. Failure to maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA results in probation for one semester, and the scholarship will be terminated if the GPA is not restored to at least 2.5 after the probationary semester
  • Recipients must submit their grades at the end of each semester, including their current and cumulative GPA
  • Recipients must notify Linly Heflin of changes to their contact information, including their email address, cell phone number or home address
  • Recipients must immediately notify Linly Heflin of changes in college status, including a transfer or withdrawal

Application Process

  1. Create login information through the Linly Heflin Foundation's application system
  2. Review the scholarship eligibility requirements to confirm that you meet the citizenship, Alabama residency, academic and college enrollment requirements
  3. Complete the scholarship application through the Linly Heflin Foundation
  4. Provide the required academic and personal information as part of the application
  5. Submit the completed application according to the foundation's application requirements
  6. If selected as a recipient, complete the required scholarship contract before each academic year and follow the requirements for maintaining the scholarship
