The George and Donna Nigh Public Service Scholarship was established by the 1999 Oklahoma Legislature to provide scholarship opportunities to outstanding students who are preparing for careers in public service.
Scholarship Details
- The annual scholarship award is $1,000
- The scholarship is awarded for one year and is not renewable
- Each participating Oklahoma college or university may nominate one student each year
- Recipients participate in public service seminars offered by the George and Donna Nigh Institute
- Selection considers academic achievement and preparation for a career in public service
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be an Oklahoma resident as determined by the Oklahoma State Regents
- Must be enrolled full time in an undergraduate program
- Must attend a public or private college or university in Oklahoma
- Must be enrolled in a degree program determined by the institution to lead to a career in public service
- Must demonstrate exceptional academic achievement
- Academic achievement may be demonstrated through GPA, class rank, national awards, scholastic achievement, honors, teacher recommendations, and extracurricular involvement
- Must be nominated by the student's college or university
Application Process
- Confirm that you meet the Oklahoma residency, enrollment, and public service degree requirements.
- Contact your college or university regarding its process for selecting a nominee for the scholarship.
- Provide any academic records, recommendations, honors, extracurricular information, or other materials requested by your institution.
- Be selected by your college or university as its annual scholarship nominee.
- The institution submits its nominee for consideration prior to the beginning of the spring semester.
- Nominations are reviewed and approved by an advisory committee appointed by the George and Donna Nigh Institute.
Presidents of Oklahoma colleges and universities will be invited to submit a nominee for consideration of award prior to the beginning of the spring semester. An advisory committee appointed by the George and Donna Nigh Institute will review and approve the nominations and make announcement of awards.
